Her Story

The Legacy of Townson Ranch

Deboraha Townson is an accomplished barrel racer and horsewoman with a legacy that extends far beyond the arena. Her remarkable achievements include multiple international titles, such as becoming a six-time Bill Picket Invitational Barrel Racing Champion and earning the 1989 International Professional Rodeo Association Western Region Championship. In 1990, she made history as the first Black cowgirl to compete in the International Professional Rodeo Finals.

Deboraha’s passion for western riding goes hand-in-hand with her dedication to youth mentorship. She actively volunteers with youth programs like 4-H and Junior Rodeo, helping young riders discover their potential and develop a love for the sport.

In 2022, Deboraha was inducted into the National Multicultural Western Heritage Museum’s Hall of Fame, where she was honored alongside legends like Harry Belafonte and Danny Glover.
